Nancy Lee O'Connor

Passed away on February 6, 2020


Nancy Lee O’Connor, 83, of Jefferson City, MO passed away Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Heisinger Bluffs surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on March 11, 1936 in Blue Island, IL, daughter of the late Beniamino and Angelina (Cundari) Vena. She was united in marriage on October 19, 1957 in Riverdale, IL to the late Joseph O’Connor, who passed away on January 28, 2015.

Nancy graduated from Thornton High School in Harvey, IL and completed her studies from Presbyterian St. Luke’s School of Nursing and became a registered nurse.  Throughout her career Nancy held positions in nursing homes where she was the Director of Nursing and later served patients in private duty health care providing home health care services.

She was a member of Annunciata Catholic Church in Chicago, IL, and a member of the Secular Order of Servants of Mary.  Nancy was very active in the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts; taught parish religion education at both Our Lady of Knock in Calumet City, IL and at Annunciata. After moving to Jefferson City, MO over 20 years ago, she and Joe attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.  During her time at Heisinger Bluffs, she enjoyed participating in activities and also served as an Ambassador where she advocated on behalf of the residents.  She volunteered for the church and other organizations and traveled to Las Vegas often with her husband.  She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spent countless hours playing, babysitting and attending ball games, skating events and dance recitals.

She is survived by her children: James (Betty) O’Connor of Jefferson City, Joseph (Delia) O’Connor, Jr. of Chicago, IL and Kathryn (Brian) Stevenson of Germantown, TN; seven grandchildren: Danielle (Carlos) Rivera, Allen (Pamela) O’Connor,  Joseph “Joey” (Britni) O’Connor, Jeffrey O’Connor, Krystina O’Connor, Kelsey Stevenson and Cole Stevenson; eleven great-grandchildren: Michael “Mikey” O’Connor, Aria Dresden, Tori Hargis-O’Connor, Dominick O’Connor, Isabella Rivera, Elena O’Connor, Penelope Rivera, Francesca O’Connor, Ellie O’Connor, Wyatt O’Connor and Gabriel O’Connor; and sister Angela Vena; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Nancy was preceded in death by sisters: Virginia (Otto) Smith, Rosemarie Vena and Frances (Joseph) Durso; one son: Jeffrey O’Connor and two grandchildren: James “Jimmy” (Rachael) O’Connor III, and Kathryn “Katie” O’Connor.

Friends will be received from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Elmwood Funeral Chapel, 11200 South Ewing Avenue, Chicago, IL 60617.  Additional visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Annunciata Catholic Church, 11128 S. Avenue G, Chicago, IL 60617 with Mass of Christian Burial following at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will be held at St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery in Crestwood, IL.
