Therese Marie Smierciak, “Terri”, age 63, late of St. John, IN passed away on September 5, 2019. Beloved sister and sister-in-law of Bernadine, John (Patti) and James. Loving aunt of Katelin. Preceding her in death were her parents Barney and Helen Smierciak of Hegewisch. Terri was valedictorian of George Washington High School Chicago, IL Class of 1973 and a graduate of St. Xavier University Chicago, IL. She worked in Insurance Management for over 35 years and presently was the Technical Product Manager for Dearborn Life Insurance Company. Terri enjoyed travel and was an avid reader. Visitation Sunday, September 8, 2019 from 1-7 p.m. at the Elmwood Funeral Chapel 11300 West 97th Lane (1/2 block west of U. S. 41 / Wicker Ave. at 97th Lane) St. John, IN 46373. Terri was one of us in Dearborn Claims and we want to express our condolences and sympathies to the family during this difficult time. Terri was a valuable member of our team, her knowledge and diligence with her work was admirable. She would always do thorough research and provide the facts to support her position and never afraid to share her insights. Terri was smart and also tough on the outside, but very gentle on the inside when you get to know her. We will remember when we tried to hug Terri and she will shrug off, but with time she could not resist those touchy moments.

"I was fortunate to work with Terri at CNA Insurance in the early 2000’s in Group Benefits. She was the business expert on our Development Team. I so enjoyed working with Terri and she made me laugh every day! With her guidance, we build some amazing applications. I will always remember her smile, laughter, hard work ethic and determination! We were all blessed getting to enjoy every day we were with Terri! It’s at moments like these that you wish she knew how much you enjoyed being her friend! She was a force to be reckoned with at work and she will be truly, truly missed. Terri loved Maine and the lighthouses and the blackhawks were HER team. "I met Terri when we both worked at CNA many years ago. She was so very smart and most of all so kind to newbies like me. She helped me learn a lot about group insurance and I considered he my friend. I left CNA and y fortunately we didn’t keep In touch.
