George J. Schroeder, age 74, late of Cedar Lake, IN and formerly of Chicago passed away on July 7, 2019. Beloved husband of the late Kathy Schroeder. Loving father of Tina Rozek and Jodi (Jack) Barnett. Devoted grandfather of John, Rickie, Rocco, Desiree, Wayne, Jacob (Emily), Lindsey (Brandon), Rebekah (Ammr), Aaron and David. Cherished great-grandfather of Glenn, Jr., John, Robert, Hunter, Tristin, Leo, Lydia, Kyson, Adeena and Jacob. Dear son of the late Frank and late Bernice Schroeder. Dearest brother of late Shirley Schroeder and late John “Jack” (Clara “Cookie”) Schroeder. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. George had a love of the outdoors; deer hunting and fishing. In his younger years sports included golden glove boxing, martial arts, power weight lifting baseball. He loved working with kids and coaching softball. He was on pool and bowling leagues and enjoyed working with wood and working on all types of machinery.  He never waivered when it came to helping someone who was in need.  His sense of humor and wit will be sorely missed but never ever forgotten as his traits live on through his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.Memorial visitation Friday, July 12, 2019 from 3-8 p.m. at the Elmwood Funeral Chapel & Crematory 9931 Lincoln Plaza Way Cedar Lake, IN 46303. Memorial services at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Dennis Greene, officiating. Cemetery private. 219-374-9300.
