"The ADS was the best example to young Police Officers, always a crisp uniform, proper decorum, physically fit, running across the 95th st bridge for exercise and always checking on those of us working the midnight shift when he encountered us doing Police work on the street. "

"I met Carl in 1977. In the subsequent years, he selected me to be his Aide during significant events such as the Papal Visit of St. John Paul in 1978. Carl had the responsibility for Holy Name Cathedral and the Cardinal's residence where the Pope stayed. I was with him during the years he had the command responsibility at the annual Chicago Fest. He had the ability to command and also be concerned for the well being of those who served under him. His leadership style was one that I tried to emulate in subsequent years. He steady calm demeanor remained the same no matter how complex and tense the situation. We were not only co-workers, but friends. During my career's variety of assignments, Carl was a mentor with whom I could always discuss issues and ask for advice. My wife and I stayed with Carl and Sylvia at their retirement home in Montello, Wisconsin, where they created a beautiful antique store in a home they converted on a main road though this quaint community. They both thoroughly enjoyed that portion of their lives. Carl could not believe the demand for antiques which required him to make frequent buying trips. Some years later, when he was living in his condo, I sent him an app called "Jukebox" which contained multiple musical selections for each year in the 50's and 60's. He called me and excitedly said that he enjoyed the music so much that he opened his windows so that others could also hear it. I am lucky that Carl came into my life as a co-worker, mentor and friend. My deepest condolences to the Dobrich Family. Tom Sadler, Sister Bay, WI."
