Passed away on May 16, 2019

Derek Michael Harvey, 38, of Crown Point, IN passed away at his home on May 16, 2019. Born on April 23, 1981, in Kokomo, IN, Derek was a graduate of Northwestern High School and Purdue University and was employed by Prime Communications. 

 

He is survived by his beloved wife Katie Green; parents Mary (Burns) and Ed Rethlake, Ralph Harvey; brother Jared (Christy) Harvey and nieces Marissa and Mia; half sister Debby Sheron and half brother Ron (Tina) Harvey; in-laws Rob and Patti Green; and sister-in-law Karrie (Oscar) Ortiz, niece Sia and nephew Koen.

 

After receiving a colon cancer diagnosis in 2014, Derek chose to live life to the fullest. He found true love, went on adventures, tried new things, traveled, spent time at museums, sporting events, concerts, plays, ate delicious food (always ordering dessert), laughed a lot and never took a day for granted. He continued to play trivia and video games, manage winning fantasy teams and win $2 bills from his friends. He loved Katie, his family, his friends and his dog Gracie with his whole heart. Derek’s kindness, humor and strength will continue to inspire others.
